According to ET Online, here are the details of Stevie and Kai’s divorce settlement:
‘The 65-year-old musician married Kai Millard in 2001, and the two had been separated since 2009. Court documents obtained by ET reveal that Wonder and Millard will share custody of their children together 14-year-old Kailand, and 10-year-old Mandla. Wonder has agreed to pay $25,000 a month in child support as part of the settlement.’
Here’s a small copy of their divorce settlement. Stevie finalized his side of the deal by putting his fingerprints on the dotted line.
Kai Morris will be receiving a total of $300,ooo per year in child support payments. Can we say cha-ching?
Based on some hypothetical calculations, here’s what I figured Kai’s expenses might be:
-Being that they have joint custody of their two children, let’s assume they each will pay half on their children’s expenses, including the kids’ clothing, which may be about $3750 a month ($45K a year). The kids might have expensive taste, so let’s say that they each get two pairs of Air Yeezys ($350 each pair), a pair of Jordans ($150) and the remaining $2,050 goes to brand name clothes with a hefty price tag.
-Lets assume that Stevie is being generous enough to pay the full cost of their children’s tuition (which is something that you often here celebrities agree to do in their child support arrangements), so this may be one expense that hypothetically speaking, Kai won’t have to pay. The kids are probably going to a high end private school, which could cost a total of about $45,000 per year for both of them. Now, 2+2 will always equal 4, but I guess Stevie’s kids just get taught that mathematical rule in a different and much more expensive way. Moving on…
-The children’s extracurricular activities may cost another $8000 per month ($96K per year), split down the middle.
– Let’s guesstimate that it costs about $4500 per month ($54K a year) for the children’s food expenses. Let’s just assume that they go out to restaurants to eat everyday (which is probably not healthy) for approximately $150.00 per day.
– Their health care may be about $450 a month ($5,400 per year) combined, they also will split that cost.
The total cost of their COMBINED children’s expenses per year is based on a purely hypothetical scenario, which is $2oo,400 to care for both kids. Split that down the middle between Stevie and Kai, and that would cost each of them $100,200. That would leave Kai with $199,800 per year in excess funds to do whatever she pleases with it. We’re not sure what Kai does for a living, but that’s not a bad guaranteed side fund coming in, on top of what she may already be earning on her own.
There was no mention of spousal support in their settlement, so maybe they both agreed not to include it. $300,000 per year probably won’t hurt Stevie’s pockets all that much, because he’ll probably be able to cover that yearly expense with his pay from a couple shows out of the MANY he performs every year.
I’m just glad that Stevie didn’t get hammered in his divorce settlement like Lionel Richie did!
