Tevin Campbell is sick n’ tired of folks bringing up his elusive sexuality and is now speaking out about it. Apparently, fans have been on a quest to get force to acknowledge whether or not he’s into men, but the singer refuses to bow down to their demands.
Even though he did not give into their demands, he also did not deny the belief of many- that he is gay. What Tevin did do though, is check the hell outta anyone who has something to say about his singing skills, regardless of his sexual preference. That point couldn’t have been made more precisely in his pissed off Instagram post the other day. Peep what he had to say below, via The Jasmine Brand:
“I read the comments I done heard it all “his ass loose,” he a fag,” “he gay as hell,” y’all homophobes gotta do better the thing you will NEVER EVER be able to say about me is “that boy CANT saing” thats the day I will be sitting at home crying and that day will be NEVER”
Now, if you’ve been following ILOSM for a while, then you know this isn’t the first time Tevin has been outspoken about his sexuality, nor the public’s questioning of it. A few years back, we reported his surprisingly open description and/or confession of being what he referred to as “try-sexual.” If you missed that tidbit of info, check out our prior report below…

In a 2003 interview in with Sister 2 Sister Magazine, the “Can We Talk” singer admitted to having a “Try-Sexual” attitude towards sex. His interview with S2S’s, Jamie Foster Brown, had everyone talking. This was “Pre-Social Media, but the effects of the interview have been long lasting. Here are a few excerpts from it:
Jaime: You don’t want them to know what your sexuality is?
Tevin: I’m not gay, but there are a lot of different things that I do like, sexually. Being in the business, you are introduced to a lot of different things. I’m not gay but I’m a freak and I think a lot of people know what a freak is.
Jaime: I don’t. What is it?
Tevin: Basically, I’m trying a lot of things. Being open-minded. It has nothing to do with attraction. It’s just having fun and I did a lot of that on the road with dancers. We had truth or dare.
Jaime: So you’re saying it could be male or female? Whatever is happening at that time?
Tevin: Right. I am not exclusively attracted to men. I’m not gay, but sexually…
Jaime: Would you say you’re bisexual?
Tevin: No, just TRY-sexual
Jaime: What is that? You, me and he?
Tevin: Leave that to the imagination
When asked, by SoulTrain.com, if he would discuss his personal life, or if it deters him from wanting to be more open. Tevin said:
“I always say that I have to live my life for me. Everyone has to go home at night and live behind closed doors. No matter what you think you know about a celebrity and what they are doing, you truly don’t know. Everybody lives behind closed doors… As far as what I do in my personal life, if you get to know me then you’ll know. But I have friends and family that love me for who and what I am. I don’t need other people to love me for who I am, I need them to love me for my music and if they can’t do that then you’re not a fan. I divulge a lot in my album. I know the questions that people ask, so really the only way you’ll get to know me is through my music.”
And there ya’ have it ILOSM fam.’ Tevin Campbell was pretty much saying the same thing years ago, that he’s saying now, regarding his sexuality: It ain’t nobody’s business, but his! Can’t be mad at the brotha for that.
