These Two Cuties Became ’90s Singers We Still Love To This Day

We always have fun with these ‘Old School Guess Who’ posts because it’s interesting to see our ILOSM fam’ take a stab at trying to figure these out. Sometimes you all are right on the money with your guesses, and sometimes y’all are way off 😜, but it’s all in good fun.

Okay, so this one may be a little tough, but here’s a hint: these two singers have sang together many times, including on the Low Down Dirty Shame movie soundtrack (which starred Keenen Ivory Wayans, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Salli Richardson). If you take a good look at the photo up top, you just might be able to figure this out. Scroll down to see if your guess is on point…

They Are The One And Only…

Zhane: Jean Baylor (L) and Renee Neufville (R)

Those little cutie pies grew up to be the beautiful ’90s R&B group, Zhane! Remember them? They were part of Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit collective and they had everybody rocking to their jam “Groove Thang” back in ’93. If that still doesn’t ring a bell for you the lyrics went something like “We’re moving on keeping strong, don’t you let them stir you wrong, it’s a groove thang/ We’re gonna give you what you want just as long as you’re around it’s a groove thang…” Now you remember don’t you? Thought so. They also had hits like “Hey Mr. DJ,” “Sending My Love,” and “Shame.”

Zhane consisted of Renee Neufville  and Jean Norris-Baylor. They are no longer a group, but they’re both getting their sing-on as solo artists, so we ain’t mad at that at all.

They’ve Still Got It

Before we get into what else Jean and Renee are doing, y’all have got to see how beautiful they still are. Lawd Ha’mercy, time has been kind to these ladies. Check them out below…

Renee Neufille…

Jean Baylor…

What Renee And Jean Are Doing Now

Jean Baylor is creating great music that has a fusion of jazz and R&B sound. She’s no longer a solo artist though. Jean performs with the band that she and her husband, jazz drummer Marcus Baylor, formed, called The Baylor Project.

Renee Neufville was once a part of Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor band for many years after Zhane split, and now she is doing solo performances and constantly tearing up any stage that she touches. She sometimes taps into her Jamaican roots within her performances. Below, are two clips of her doin’ her thing…

We don’t know about y’all, but I think these ladies both deserve their props. They are the kind of artists who are continuing to hone their skills and they deserve to be heard by the masses. We’re very happy to see Renee and Jean still going strong…can’t wait to see what the future has in store for them. Some of these youngins in the music industry need to take notes!
