So Ross quietly went behind Gordy’s back and convinced executive producer, Rob Cohen, at Universal Pictures to arrange a deal where he would produce the film if Ross was cast as “Dorothy.” Gordy hated that Diana did that, but he couldn’t deny how sweet the deal was, which meant that they would have the huge financial backing that Universal was offering (because Universal apparently didn’t give Gordy a movie budget limit). Therefore Gordy and Cohen agreed to the deal…Berry still didn’t like Diana overstepping his executive authority though.
