Gladys Knight just hit her son, Shanga Hankerson, with a major lawsuit, as the ever-growing real-life soap opera that has become the backdrop to Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles Restaurants continues. Their three Atlanta, Ga. locations have some of the best soul food ever, but the way business is being handled, leaves a nasty taste in Glady’s mouth.
As we recently reported, Gladys son, Shanga, allegedly embezzled about $1 million from their ATL restaurants and ended up in jail in June (2016).
After dealing with that whole fiasco, Gladys is finally sick and tired of Shanga’s shenanigans and she now refuses to let her name go down in flames with his reputation. She filed a lawsuit against Shanga to completely disassociate her name and brand with all three of their restaurants immediately. Here’s what was reported via TMZ:
Gladys Knight might’ve just proved blood isn’t always thicker than water — she just sued her son to stop using mama’s name and face in the restaurant biz. Gladys wants the person now running the restaurants previously managed by her son, Shanga Hankerson, to 86 her from signs and promotions for the chicken and waffle joints.
Gladys says she gave the green light to use her name and image for the restaurants back in ’99, but put the kibosh on the deal a few months ago after the eateries were raided by the Georgia Department of Revenue. Her son was arrested for allegedly pocketing a million bucks. And one more thing … in addition to money and an injunction, Gladys wants all her memorabilia adorning the restaurants returned to her.
Dang! Gladys is taking ALL her stuff back! Right now Shanga’s probably looking at his Mom like this 👇 👇 saying ‘Wow Momma, really? It’s like THAT? You’re taking the pictures off the walls too?!!’
Kids, I tell ya’- we’ll always love our seeds, but I feel you Gladys, sometimes they grow up and do things that make you just wanna slap the piss out of ’em (like my Momma used to say, LOL)…but in a tough love sort of way of course. Keep ya’ head up Gladys and we hope your son has learned a valuable lesson from all of this. Wishing both of you the best.
