Marvin Gaye III has a great record so far when it comes to winning lawsuits. Don’t believe us? Just ask Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.
Now Marvin III has picked a new battle to fight and it’s against Empire co-creator and director, Lee Daniels. He’s trying to sue the pants off of anyone else involved in the shows creation too and here’s why:

Marvin Gaye‘s son is the latest guy to claim “Empire” was his brainchild … he’s about to sue over it, and remember, the guy’s got a good track record in court.
We’ve learned Marvin Gaye III claims he registered a treatment on a show called “Diamonds & Ballads” (aka “Those Sons of Riches!“) with the Writers Guild of America back in 2010.
Gaye says the treatment describes a family in the music business — “a music based ‘black’ and ‘hip’ version of ‘Dynasty’ … with a little ‘Sopranos.'”
We’re told Gaye shopped the treatment around to TV execs and said it was loosely based on the lives of his legendary family and the Berry Gordy family.
Gaye insists the people in the industry with whom Lee Daniel’s associates received emails pitching his treatment.
And Gaye feels Daniels unwittingly fessed up in 2014 after “Empire” hit big, when he said, “I wanted to make a black ‘Dynasty.'” He also said it was similar to “The Sopranos.”
Gaye’s lawyer tells TMZ he plans to file a lawsuit against Daniels, Fox and others. The lawyer tells TMZ, “We understand that three things can’t be hidden for long: the Sun, the Moon and the Truth!”

We know one thing, Lee Daniels and Fox better get ready to rumble (legally that is) because Marvin III doesn’t seem to let up until he gets what he wants. This ought to be interesting. We’ll keep y’all posted.
The Lion in Winter. It came out in 1966 and written by the late James Goldman. The story’s about the release of an imprisoned former wife of a king (who has since found a younger mistress), who are both using their three sons (a young yet weak son who is the king’s favorite, a child who is shrewd and a master manipulator himself, and a gifted son loved by his mother and disowned by his father because he’s gay) in a game of control of the empire. Lee Daniels and Danny Strong (you know, the OTHER creator of the series) have both acknowledged publicly this play, which has become an Oscar-winning film and an Emmy-winning film over the decades, was an inspiration behind the series’ creation. Heck, the main characters’ surname is LYON for goodness sake. Gaye’s just being a money-grubbing mook in a long line of people claiming they made this money-making series. Emphasis on “money-making” because if the show was a one-season wonder, they wouldn’t even bother.
