the biggest voices and largest social media following, are choosing to be silent when the very people who buy their music need their help the most right now.
Where is Jay-Z? Where is Eminem? Where is Lil’ Wayne? Where is Drake? Where is Kanye West, who for Hurricane Katrina, definitely earned stripes in my book when he famously said on national TV that “George Bush does not care about Black people.” It’s not what he said about George Bush, it’s the fact that he said something, that earned the respect of many, because we all know that he was risking losing everything by doing that- his endorsements, his record label’s support, some of his fans, everything- but now I guess artists like he and others, are taking those things into consideration. Is it right? Well it depends on who you ask, but still, it’s their decision.
This is why we’re so grateful to have come up in the Old School soul era, because at least we know what it is like to have a generation of soldiers in artists like Stevie Wonder, who could give a damn about a dollar, if that meant that he had to accept social inequality. We humbly thank you Mr. Wonder.
Kudos, Mr. Stevie!!!!
