You may not know his name, but many of you may have seen the recently viral video of Ibn Ali Miller, the 26 year old Muslim brotha who broke up a street fight between two male teenagers. He was a classic example of the Old School motto many of us came up with back in the day, and that is ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’

Ibn went viral for putting to use that very tactic that we wish we could see more of today and now he’s been officially honored for his actions by his city, in what was a very emotional event for Ibn, his mother, and everyone in attendance, including the two teens.
In today’s era, where COONery seems to be the ‘new cool,’ it is beyond refreshing to see Ibn Miller thrusted into the spotlight for his responsible actions.
In case you missed what happened between Ibn and two teenagers in an Atlantic City, NJ neighborhood. Here’s a quick recap: Ibn was coming back from running an errand for his mother, when he came across two teens fighting and being hyped up by their friends. Some were laughing, some were talking trash, and several were recording the fight. This would have typically been just another day in the neighborhood and another street fight uploaded to Youtube, but Ibn stepped up and made a world of difference.
He gave them a tough love talk, made them realize that they were acting a fool while their friends were laughing, and opened their eyes to the reality that they would soon be men:
“You’re almost men, you’re not kids no more,” is what Ibn Miller told them. “Start acting like it, yo. You’re going to get nowhere like this, yo.”
Then Ibn turned to some of the kids in the crowd, whose parents he knew, to condemn them for instigating the situation and hit them with a dose of reality about their own:
“Everybody on their phones, y’all the real cowards. Record that, too,” Miller said to their friends. “It ain’t cool, man. Y’all in the middle of the street.”
Ibn then told one kid, “I know where you’re from, humble beginnings. Your mom and dad worked hard to get where they’re at, yo.” He then turned to another kid, “Your dad’s doing life, you think it’s a game out here? It’s no game out here. It’s real out here, little bruh.”

Ibn Miller’s talk ultimately got the teens to squash their beef and shake hands. His persistence to “not leave until y’all shake hands” and his passion, received appraisal from millions on social media, including Lebron James and Snoop Dogg.
After the fight Ibn linked back up with the teens and took them to dinner to further talk to them. They are very grateful for his help.
Ibn Miller Emotionally Speaks About His Mother During Press Conference
Now the mayor and city council of Atlantic City have honored Ibn Miller, who’s mother and the two teens were also on attendance. Miller- who is a married father of six- spoke of what his mother did for him that helped mold him into the man he is today:
“When I was young I grew up in the projects and I would get a punishment. She would make me read books, and I’d get asked about a short story or a poem,” Ibn said. “I’m crying because this whole situation deeply saddens me. The fact that it’s unbelievable — this should be very believable, this should be a norm, this should be regular,” Ibn said in regards to being honored for what his actions, which have now become a rarity in today’s times.
He also spoke about how his mother drilled in his head the importance of walking on the right path in life ever since he was a child and how she stayed on him and stood by him through trials and tribulations:
“People get 15 minutes of fame a lot and I would like to use every second of my 15 minutes to send gratitude toward my mother,” stated Ibn.
