The Actress Who Was Supposed To Play ‘Rachel’
Actress, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, was initially hired to play the role of ‘Rachel.’ You may not know her name, but we, old Schoolers definitely know her face. Phyllis is best known for her roles in 90’s cult classics, like What’s Love Got To Do With It, New Jack City, Jungle Fever, The Inkwell and How Stella Got Her Grove Back, and The Women of Brewster’s Place, to name a few.
Why Didn’t She Keep The Role Of ‘Rachel?’
Apparently, Spike Lee had chosen Phyllis for the “Rachel’ role and pre-production had already began. However, somewhere toward the beginning of pre-production, Phyllis ended up being replaced by Kyme due to artistic differences she and Spike had about the direction of the ‘Rachel’ character. Based on the mega-success of School Daze, it’s probably safe to say the film would have also served as another big notch under her belt.
