Singer, Eric Benet, wants y’all to know one thing- that he is NOT a Donald Trump supporter, BUT there is one thing he did ask Trump to do for him and that is to help his music career in a very unconventional way.
Benet, the R&B cat, who had us blasting (and still blasting) his smash, “Spend My Life” in ’99, has consistently released real R&B albums ever since. This time around he’s adapting to the changes within the industry, as most progressive entertainers have done, and is using social media to ask Trump to talk trash about his music. Why you ask? Because Benet saw that Trump’s Twitter bashing of Vanity Fair magazine (which wrote an article about Trump that he didn’t like) boosted their subscriptions by 100 fold in comparison to their average daily subscriptions. So Eric Benet figured ‘Hey, why not send this tweet to Trump?’
Actually, Benet just might be on to something. After all, many would argue that, that is how Trump became the president-elect. One of the rules of ‘The 48 Laws of Power’ is to “stand out, be conspicuous at all cost, and make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful….” From the looks of Trump’s presidential campaign, that’s a power law he incorporated vigorously and still is…
The hate from millions of Trump’s opposers more than likely helped him win, just as much as the love from his supporters did. Trump made sure he was “conspicuous at all costs,” no matter who he offended. He dished out an equal amount of divisiveness within his public statements, that would piss many off and win many others over based on their race, fears, personal beliefs, gender, class, morals, biases, prejudices, etc. And it was the combination of both his offensive sexist, racial, blatantly false, class-divisive remarks, combined with the appeal of his fearfulness, outspokenness, and charisma that won him the presidency in an odd yin and yang type of way…
So yeah, Eric Benet may be on to something with his many anti-Trump tweets and re-tweets because you never know, maybe Trump might take the bait and bash him too eventually, then his music sales will be through the roof. Smart move Benet…
