If you haven’t heard about the latest drama, there ain’t no way to sugarcoat it. Whitney Houston fans are pissed off with Kanye West. Of course, rebellion and going against the grain goes along with Kanye’s reputation but this time, people are arguing that he’s gone way too far now.
$85K Worth Of Drama:
For those who missed all the backlash, Kanye made headlines last week after he dropped a whopping $85,000 to snag a rare 2006 photo of Whitney Houston’s home bathroom which allegedly showed drug paraphernalia scattered all over the counter. Then to make matters worse, the photo was used for the cover of Pusha T.’s Daytona album.
Since Whitney’s fans are in an uproar over the controversial photo, it makes you wonder what the Houston family thinks of the circulating photo. We all know the Houston family worked relentlessly to keep a tight lid on the rumors about Whitney’s drug use. In fact, the family was outraged when one of Whitney’s casket photos ended up in the tabloids. Now, this? For the first time since the photo debacle made headlines, a member of the Houston family is speaking publicly. But surprisingly, he’s not angry at Kanye and Pusha T.
Whitney’s Nephew Speaks:
According to ABC News, Whitney’s nephew Gary Michael Houston opened up about all the confusion in a statement to Good Morning America. As a member of the Houston family, Gary – who is the 31-year-old son of Whitney Houston’s older brother, Michael – sees the situation from a totally different perspective. “I am of a different mindset when it comes to situations like this.”
He believes the anger should be directed toward the insensitive, money hungry family member who sold the photo in the first place. If the unnamed family member hadn’t sold it, it wouldn’t have ever started circulating.
“The person who violated the trust of my aunt by taking the photo and selling it to tabloids for their own personal and/or financial gain is more of a travesty to me,” he told GMA in a statement. “People should research that — because whoever exposed it are the people who violated her trust, mistreated her, and who should ultimately be held accountable for contributing to circumstances surrounding her demise.”

Defending Kanye:
Gary, who is also an aspiring rapper, actually defended Kanye and Pusha T. insisting they actually did things the right way by purchasing the rights to the photo. “People will automatically look to people like Pusha T and Kanye West and try to place blame or say they have ill or malicious intent in order to gain publicity. But I get it. I get the correlation (sans my aunt but the photo itself),” Gary said, “and I actually love the album.”
He continued, “Bottom line — they are artists and in this day and age, if they can afford to pay someone for usage of that photograph in order to convey a visual message to accompany their musicianship … then so be it,” the hip-hop artist added.
However, he didn’t stop there. He went on to blast the people making an issue about the photo now. “’Ye nor Push are the reasons this is a topic,” he said. “The conniving people who leaked it are. Anyone speaking out about this is a ‘dollar late and a day short.’ The photo is public, it already happened…nobody came to her defense when she was alive and when it came out initially, so why champion the cause now?
“In summation, I think I speak for rest of my immediate family when I say that we are focused on way more important things than an old photo,” Gary Michael Houston closed with a brief statement promoting his late aunt’s upcoming documentary titled, “Whitney.”
Hmmm… Needless to say, Gary has turned a few heads with his statements. Did he hit the nail on the head or miss the mark? Share your thoughts.
