One thing about Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith…in recent years they’ve managed to throughly captivate these social media streets with details surrounding their lives…even though sometimes, they didn’t necessarily want that type of attention. Case in point, the latest smackdown incident, at the Oscars 2022, between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
In case you haven’t heard, Will has now offered an official apology to Chris Rock, for delivering one of the hardest slaps to Rock’s face that was seen and heard around the world. In fact, it was delivered with such precision and swiftness — Chris was looking right at him and didn’t see it coming — that it spoke to Will’s obvious skills as a dude who can throw hands. Anywho, enough about the actual smack…here’s what Will had to say during his Instagram apology to Chris and others:
“Violence in all of it’s forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much to bear and I reacted emotionally.
I would like to publicly apologize to you Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Although Will apologized to the Academy Awards and everyone else, except Chris Rock, just moments after slapping Chris, he re-apologized once again for his actions:
“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams family and my King Richard family. I deeply regret that my behavior has deeply stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress. Sincerely, Will”
By the way, there is a fake apology floating around online claiming to be from Chris Rock. Rock’s team has reportedly confirmed that the ‘Rock apology’ did not come from Chris…it is false.

Chris Rock hasn’t yet acknowledged Will’s public apology…nor has he apologized about his joke toward Jada’s hair.

Since the Oscars-slap, there have been mixed fan-reactions throughout social media. Many say Will Smith did the right thing by standing up for his wife — who has alopecia — after Chris joked about her shaved head during the ceremony. Many others believe Will went way too far and set Black folks back about 100 years.
What say you, I Love Old School Music family? Should Will have apologized to Chris Rock for slapping him? Also, was Chris Rock wrong for sparking that “emotional” flame in Will? Or was Will Smith wrong for laying hands on Chris?
