Whoopi Goldberg is all far the Black Lives Matter movement and has no problem taking a stand against any trigger-happy cop who unjustly shoots and kills African Americans at random. However, when it comes to one front runner of the BLM movement, Whoopi has had it up to HERE.
Many of you are probably familiar with social activist, DeRay McKesson. He’s been very vocal about fighting for justice. He’s been interviewed on national media outlets and seen around the country, protesting against police brutality for the murders of several Black people, including Alton Sterling, Eric Garner, and sadly, far too many others. DeRay is also one of the people who’s currently being sued by White police officers in Baton Rouge because they accuse him of invoking violent behavior for protesting against the unjust murder of Baton Rouge native, Alton Sterling. So what’s Whoopi’s problem with him you ask? A very valid one this time…
DeRay’s Tweet That Started It All
DeRay had a slight hiccup on social media the other day and it made national news. In response to some of the flack he’s gotten from anti-BLM people online, DeRay has clapped back. But there was one clap back that he was clearly ill-informed on.
He tweeted that the new Planet of the Apes movie was disrespectful to Black people and that the creators mocked him personally, by dressing one of the apes up in a blue vest, which is one of DeRay’s signature looks, he’s known for wearing during protests and such. He wrote this in a post that he has since deleted on Twitter:
“Given the history of black people as apes, I am offended and appalled by the lack of consciousness in Hollywood.”
Watch Whoopi Slam DeRay McKesson
Like we said earlier, McKesson is a public figure, so his tweet made national news. That means The View too, where Whoopi (62) unleashed a virtual Old School butt whoopin’ on 32 year old DeRay for his comment. She informed him that the ape in the Planet of the Apes has been rockin’ a blue vest since 1968- 17 years before he was born in 1985. Check out what else she said below…
Whoopi told DeRay on The View: “This has nothing to do with you. […] This is a movie about what happens when mankind doesn’t pay attention to environment, to how we treat animals and each other. […] Get over yourself,” said Whoopi.

DeRay Responds To Whoopi
After DeRay realized he’d made a mistake, he manned up to it. Here’s what he tweeted:
“After speaking with even more people about the history of the film, I deleted the tweets.”
Then he replied to Whoopi:
“@WhoopiGoldberg if you have something to say, I’m here.”
And there ya’ have it folks. Sometimes an Old Schooler has to reach back and check the hell outta a new schooler, when they make a mistake…even if their intentions were in a good place. We live and we learn…but next time DeRay may wanna research, before he lets those Twitter fingers do the talking.
