Over the past few months, Aretha Franklin has faced a number of setbacks including canceled concerts due to her health. With all that’s happened, many fans have wondered what to expect from the legendary soul singer this year. Now, she’s made two big announcements and many of her fans may find the news bittersweet because there’s good and not-so-great news.
The Bittersweet News:
According to the Detroit news station, WDIV Local 4, Aretha Franklin recently spoke with reporters and revealed what’s to come in 2017. Ms. ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’ has just announced her retirement and after 61 years in the music game, we’ll go ‘ahead and put some ‘respeck’ on the Queen of Soul’s decision, because her upcoming permanent time-off is well-deserved. “I must tell you, I am retiring this year,” she told Evrod Cassimy with WDIV Local 4.
Although she won’t be in the public eye as much, that doesn’t mean she won’t be doing anything. She’s made it clear that’s not her plan at all. “I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now,” Franklin said. “I’ll be pretty much satisfied, but I’m not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing. That wouldn’t be good either.”
