Comedic legends George Lopez along with D.L. Hughley not only paid their respects to their friend, the late Charlie Murphy at his service on Wednesday, they’ve now come through for their comedic brother in another major way.

The hilarious Murphy was laid to rest in New York, NY after battling leukemia. Many people were stunned by Murphy’s death as he kept his illness a secret. The 57 year-old brother of Eddie Murphy passed away on April 12th. His funeral took place in a New Jersey church with many more of his celebrity friends in attendance as well, including Cedric the Entertainer, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Griffin, Donnell Rawlings, Neil Brennan, and more.

Although many of us, Old Schoolers, first were introduced to Charlie through small appearances he’d made in several of Eddie’s films, we all know we didn’t really get to feel the comedic wrath of Charlie until he joined The Chappelle Show. He was one of the most hilarious storytellers in the game and was best known for his ‘True Hollywood Stories’ on the show, about the late Rick James and Prince. That’s where D.L.’s and George’s tribute come into play…

Here’s What D.L. & Lopez Did For Charlie

In one of his stories about Rick James, viewers learned that Rick James referred to the Murphy men as the ‘darkness brothers.’ Charlie and Eddie partied with Rick James in the 80’s. Fans even got to see Rick James admit that he referred to Charlie and Eddie as “Darkness.”

Charlie eventually adapted the nickname, because he liked what it represented. So to pay homage to their friend, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley got matching hand tattoos of the late Charlie Murphy’s nickname ‘Darkness’ from Rick James at Manhattan’s Fun City Tattoo on Thursday.

Not only was the loss of Murphy heartbreaking to the comedy community, but it was a horrible loss for the world. Both 55-year-old George and 54-year-old D.L. had performed frequently with Charlie over the years.

The LA natives will likely discuss Murphy during their Comedy Get Down Tour stops this Friday-Saturday at Texas’ Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in Midland.3F758FF300000578-0-image-m-41_1492788277422

What a beautiful way to remember their friend! Rest on Charlie, you will never be forgotten.
