Wyclef REACTS To Sheriff Dept.’s CLAIMS & WACK APOLOGY For Wrongly ‘Cuffing Him

The L.A. Sheriff’s Department took to their Facebook to issue an apology. But why is it wack you ask? Because it wasn’t until AFTER Wyclef’s videos- blasting them- went viral, that they spoke up to publicly “apologize” (sort of) and more importantly, do damage control on behalf of their department. In other words, it seems that the LASD realized Wyclef’s power as a multiplatinum selling artist and felt the online backlash of the millions of fans who support him. Here’s part of the LASD’s statement:

LASD’s Statement: It is unfortunate that Mr. Jean was detained for six minutes during this investigation, as he had no involvement whatsoever in this violent crime. However, Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriffs are frequently required to make lawful detentions…in the interest of catching often dangerous and armed suspects in our communities and keeping the public safe. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is apologetic for any inconvenience this process caused Mr. Jean. We are grateful we were able to apprehend the robbery suspects and that no one was seriously injured.

In the above statement, the LASD seems to be apologizing, while simultaneously downplaying their wrongdoing, and giving themselves a pat on the back all at the same damn time. The down play: “Mr. Jean was detained for six minutes,” as opposed to simply saying ‘we were 100% wrong and Mr. Jean should have NEVER been detained for one second.’ The pat on their backs: “We are grateful we were able to apprehend the robbery suspects.” It is great that they’re grateful for catching the correct suspect, but what does that have to do with apologizing to Wyclef for harassment? Moving on…

Wyclef Points Out The ‘Lies’

But this is the part of the LASD’s “apology” that Wyclef says is an outright lie and he is appalled the deputies still are not telling the truth. They claimed Wyclef tried walking to the back of his car and made “furtive movements,” all of which Wyclef said is a lie, because he never had a chance to walk to the back of the vehicle, nor ask to do so, because as soon as he got out of the car the deputies were all over him (read LASD’s full statement here):

LASD Statement: Due to the violent nature of the call (armed robbery), …and Mr. Jean’s furtive movements and demeanor, he was handcuffed. It is reported that Mr. Jean’s furtive movements included actions such as once he exited the vehicle, he started to walk towards the trunk of the car, questioning why he could not get his things out of his trunk, even though he was clearly instructed by deputies not to approach the trunk. Mr. Jean was also ordered several times not to place his hands near his pockets or his waistband. Out of an abundance of caution, a pat down search for weapons was also conducted of Mr. Jean’s person and he was subsequently secured inside the backseat of a patrol vehicle.

Huh? Wyclef was “subsequently secured inside the backseat of a patrol vehicle?” Nah, the more appropriate phrase should have read: ‘Wyclef’s repeated requests of why he was detained and his repeated explanation of who he is, was repeatedly ignored by the deputies. He was then wrongly detained in the backseat of their patrol car.’ Anywho, see what Wyclef is now saying below…

It’s also being reported by TMZ, that ‘Clef’s attorney, Melanie Bonvicino, is saying that Wyclef was “subject to police brutality, racial profiling, police bias and the ongoing discriminatory practices of law enforcement …” and that he’s demanding a full and through investigation.
