Solange Knowles took to Twitter to share a gut-wrenching experience where she was attacked in front of her family by 4 older white women.
On Friday night, Beyonce’s younger sister, along with her husband, Alan Ferguson, her 11-year-old son Daniel Julez Smith, Jr. and his friend, Rasheed were attending a Kraftwerk concert in New Orleans.
While her son and his friend were hesitant to go, Knowles and her husband encouraged them to attend as the band Kraftwerk has been sampled in hip hop music.
Excited to experience this concert with her son, her favorite song came on and she decided to dance.
The 30 year-old singer songwriter was enjoying herself until four old white women threw a lime at her and told her to “sit down”.
Not only was a half-eaten lime thrown at Solange, another unknown object was thrown at her as well.
4 older white women yell to me from behind, “Sit down now” . I tell them I’m dancing at a concert. They yell, “u need to sit down now”…

At that moment, Knowles decided to share her experience and explain why black women are angry at times.
But in this moment, I’m just going to share my experience…
So that maybe someone will understand, why many of us don’t feel safe…
Not only did Knowles share her experience on Twitter, she wrote a piece about the experience entitled “AND DO YOU BELONG? I DO”.
In her article, Solange shared how apart of her wanted to go ham and get the police involved, she thought about her son. Most importantly, she thought about how she constantly uses her platform to speak out against the injustices of the world.
What did Solange do? Solange shared in a touching piece how she responded to the haters.
After you think it all over, you know that the biggest payback you could ever had (after, go figure, they then decided they wanted to stand up and dance to songs they liked) was dancing right in front of them with my hair swinging from left to right, my beautiful black son and husband, and our dear friend Rasheed jamming the hell out with the rhythm our ancestors blessed upon us saying….
We belong. We belong. We belong.
We built this.
