The Young And The Restless star Kristoff St. John’s shock death at 52 has been ruled an accident. The L.A coroner reports the beloved daytime star died of heart disease triggered by an alcohol binge.
St. John died on February 3 at his home in Los Angeles. The official cause of death has been revealed as hypertrophic heart disease, according to TMZ.
His Son Died Age 24
St. John’s cause of death occurs when the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick. The organ begins to work harder to pump blood making it weak. Hypertrophic heart disease usually goes undiagnosed because there are no symptoms, according to Mayo Clinic.
The actor’s death has been labeled “accidental” because the star was reportedly drinking heavily just before he died. His heart condition mixed with the alcohol are now stated as his official cause of death.
St. John was laid to rest next to the grave of his son, Julian. His son died tragically by suicide in 2014 at age 24. Sources told TMZ last month that the actor would be interred at Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California, near Los Angeles.
He Battled Depression
Kristoff battled severe depression in the years following his only son’s heartbreaking death. In October 2017, he was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold after threatening to shoot himself.
