Earlier this year, Kristoff checked himself into the UCLA Medical Center, after seeking help for his ongoing battle with depression. He was released only a few days prior to his death. The actor’s final TV appearance came on February 6, three days after his death.

Kristoff had played Neil Winters on The Young and the Restless since 1991. In 1992, he won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for his role.

Celebrities Paid Tribute

Friends and former co-stars Viola Davis, Vivica A. Fox, Yvette Nicole Brown and Shemar Moore were among the many who penned emotional tributes to the late actor on social media

“The pain of grief and mental health should be addressed in the same realm as ‘physical’ ailments,” Viola wrote on Twitter. “No real words except….I hope you found peace. God bless those you loved who were left behind. With all my heart and empathy.”

St John is survived by his two daughters: Paris Nicole and Lola.
